Summary: Life changing...memorable...fun. The perfect adventure, especially for launching into adulthood.; Commercial Trip

How did ACA Help? The Bikecentennial organization created map books, planned the route, equipped us for cooking...they did just about everything but the pedaling.

Health Issues: My knees had a hard time acclimating to long climbs in the coastal mountains. All of my riding had been in Northern Indiana where I could spin most of the time.

Motivation: In 1975, my Dad asked me if I thought I would like to do it.

Most Challenging Aspect:My knees became swollen as we traversed the Cascades. Fortunately Icy Hot and APR's saved the day. Oh,...and those 38 broken spokes along the way.

Favorite Experience: There are too many to recount but I think the recounting would have to be my favorite. I can retell the stories like they were yesterday.

Least Favorite: The one "big" fight our group had about where to camp. Actually it was not a big fight but it was memorable as the only real conflict the entire summer.

Tips: Just go.
