Today only, $500 match challenge from BikeFlights

May 14, 2013

Yesterday Planet Bike sponsored a special 2:1 match for the first $1,000 donated, in addition to the $35,000 match challenge with which we started the campaign. I am so happy to thank all of you who stepped up to help us meet both matches.

As of yesterday evening, U.S. Bicycle Route System (USBRS) supporters have given $67,732 towards our $100,000 goal, including $1,000 matched by Planet Bike, $33,366 matched by a group of donors, and $33,366 given by USBRS supporters like you.

If you haven’t made a gift to the Build It. Bike It. Be a Part of It. campaign yet and still want to see your donation go twice as far, oh wait, I mean THREE times as far, BikeFlights has offered to match the first $500 donated today. And since we're still $1,600 away from making the $35,000 match, you get another chance at the 2:1 match offer today!

Today is also the final day to be entered to win a Raptor or Raven 6 hydration pack from Osprey. Visit the USBRS campaign page for full contest details.

Here’s a bit about today’s match sponsor, BikeFlights:

“We started BikeFlights in 2009 with one simple goal, make traveling with your bike easier. We saw a big void where we could help pull all the pieces together for riders, shops, organizers, and even small bike manufactures. We have worked closely with these people and listened to their needs to refine our offerings over the last 4 years. Our growth reflects that we are on the right track.

Bill Acorn, from BikeFlights said, "our decision to support the USBRS, which makes it easier to travel by bike, goes hand in hand with our mission of making it easier to travel with your bike. It is a simple nuance, but we get it. We understand that you love your bike and that it is like an extension of you. Your bike fits your body, your style, and your personality, and your bike is your most trusted riding buddy. Thanks to the USBRS, your journey may start and end in far away communities. BikeFlights ships your bike to your destination and back home from any point on the USBRS. So go ride, see the country, meet people, visit small towns on your bike, go see places you have wanted to see, and we will make sure bike is there with you.”

Of course Bill is excited about the development of better maps and routes like the USBRS. He also mentions his particular interest in seeing the growth of free and low-cost, quality events of all types that encourage more folks to get on bikes, and the growth of locally manufactured bicycle products, which are on the rise in many communities. The growth of local bicycle products ties in nicely with the rise in communities adopting fresh, local craft food and beverages, “which are perfect after a ride,” says Bill.

“We’ve enjoyed serving Adventure Cycling members," Bill adds. "They've been great customers.” Visit BikeFlights.com for more information on the SERFAS Bike Transport Case
