The bicycle hides nothing
and threatens nothing.
It is what it does,
its form is its function.

ADVENTURE CYCLING ROUTE NETWORK
We are currently working on our next long-distance cycling route, Bicycle Route 66. Embracing the spirit of “The Mother Road,” the new route will follow the famous corridor from Chicago to Los Angeles on roads appropriate for cyclists and, when possible, on sections of the historic highway. We anticipate releasing the route maps in 2014. Read the news release and download photos (zip) for your story. (Please note: Photo credits are listed in a Word document including in the .zip file.)

In April and May 2010, we unveiled our newest cycling route, the Sierra Cascades Bicycle Route, which roughly parallels the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail from the Canadian to the Mexican border for approximately 2,400 miles.

With 40,974 miles of our bicycle-friendly routes now spanning North America, the Adventure Cycling Route Network is constantly evolving and growing. Read recent news articles about our route network.

U.S. BICYCLE ROUTE SYSTEM
The U.S. Bicycle Route System (USBRS) is an emerging national network of bicycle routes that span multiple states and are of national and regional significance. These routes are nominated for national designation by State Departments of Transportation (DOTs), and designated and catalogued by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). Use the Corridor Plan map to learn what is happening in your area.

For an overview of the U.S. Bicycle Route System, read our USBRS 101 blog post. You may also be interested in Ginny Sullivan's weekly blog column, Building the U.S. Bicycle Route System, which features interviews with key players, articles on route networks around the world, and more.

More information on the U.S. Bicycle Route System can be found at adventurecyclin.org/usbrs.

UNDERGROUND RAILROAD BICYCLE ROUTE
The Underground Railroad Bicycle Route honors the bravery of those who fled bondage and those who provided shelter, passing points of interest and historic sites along a 2,028-mile corridor from Mobile, Alabama to Owen Sound, Ontario. Learn more.

In February 2012, Adventure Cycling will be releasing the final map section for the new 400-mile alternate (an alternate routing option for cyclists following the main UGRR route) between Oberlin, Ohio, and Owen Sound, Ontario. Running through northwestern Ohio, southern Michigan, and southern Ontario, the new cycling route will highlight an important cultural heritage corridor, offering education and recreational opportunities for people of all ages. Highlights on the new alternate will include the historically rich communities of Sandusky, Ohio, and Detroit, Michigan. The first section of the alternate from Oberlin, OH, to Sombra, ON, is available. Download high res and low res versions of the Detroit Alternate index maps (21 mb).
