At 62-years-young, Rick Ashton is the oldest, er, most seasoned rider in this year’s Tour. Which is an impressive feat. Things move a big notch up the impressiveness scale, however, when you learn that Rick is from Florida, the most vertically deficient state in the country. Its highest point is 345 feet above sea level — not exactly nosebleed territory. The Great Divide Mountain Bike Route climbs over 250,000 thousand cumulative feet. It’s unclear how someone from the Sunshine State would prepare for this. Maybe Rick lapped that 345-foot nipple a dozen times a day for the last year? Seen here shortly after topping off his tires outside a Banff bike shop, he admitted, “I’ve got too much stuff. I’m the heaviest rider here.”
