A group of us are planning a ride from Tulsa to Seattle starting sometime next summer.  We are wondering what routes to take and would LOVE any input from folks who may have taken the same route, or at least part of this trek.  We would like to go by the Grand Canyon, and then head up the west coast of Cali to Seattle.  It has been suggested that starting in Seattle and going to Tulsa would be wise, and we are open to that.

Any suggestions, tips, warnings, etc. are welcome!

Thanks!

As discussed many times on this site, you don't want to go north up the Pacific coast in the summer.  If you do, you'll likely face devastating headwinds a lot of of the time.  If you have a choice, arrange it to go south on that part of your route.  You'll love it!

Thanks so much for the reply!  We are being suggested this north to south route left and right, so I think we would be fools to do otherwise.

I have seen Highway 95 up and down the west coast as a suggested biking route.  Does anyone have experience with this road?

You might want to also consider using a portion of ACA's new Sierra Cascades Route which will be available next April, 2010. You can see where it's located here:

That route does look intriguing.  I would assume that it would not be easy riding, but the scenery would be fantastic.  Im going to bring up the idea to the others.  Thanks!
