Hello everyone :)

My name is Mike. I wanted to say "hi" and introduce myself before posting about our project - in 2001 I took a bicycle trip across the country, it took 55 days and over 4,000 miles. The experience left an impression on me that was more powerful than anything I'd ever been through. It changed me.

We (myself and Amanda, my film-making partner) have spent the last 6 years working on this film - and currently we are editing the footage we filmed two summers ago, while following Larry McKurtis. It's been an overwhelming process, and we are excited to have come so far with so little.

So, having said that, here is some info about an outreach campaign that we're pushing to allow other travelers to be a part of the film (if you'd like to watch a few teasers first, to see if it's your thing, you can so here http://vimeo.com/album/45766).

For Thousands of Miles (http://forthousandsofmiles.com) is an upcoming feature-length documentary that focuses on the concept of individuals being connected via the places they've visited by bicycle.

Stockpile (http://stockpile.projectpedal.com) is an element of our feature film, an outreach campaign to collect a pool of raw media from other travelers and with it, help visually express that our experiences on the road are intertwined in ways we often overlook.

Click here http://vimeo.com/5070041 to watch our 60 second promo video about Stockpile

All you need to do to be a part of For Thousands of Miles is upload any pictures or videos to Stockpile (in doing so you're granting us permission to include those materials in the film under a Creative Commons license : http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/).

Step 1 Decide which clips you'd like to share! - It can be one clip that's very special to you, or a whole memory-card's worth of great bicycle trip footage.

Step 2 Next Upload your clip(s) to Vimeo! - We feel it's the best video sharing site around! Not to mention they have a really active and supportive bicycling community. (http://vimeo.com/upload/video/group:3708

Step 3 Then add your video(s) to our group! - That's it! Feel free to look around, comment on other rider's videos, and make a few friends. (http://vimeo.com/groups/stockpile)

If you have any questions about anything or would just like to introduce yourself, you can contact us at info@projectpedal.com. Thank you!

That sounds like a good idea. I have lots of photographs on my bicycling tours, but nothing on video.

Hey Westinghouse Smiley We love getting pictures too - not just video - there's always the possibility of using still-photos in the film if we receive enough. Or main goal is to tell this part of our film through video - but no doubt pics can be a very powerful way to tell a story. Thanks!

Just wanted to say thanks to all the new people who've have been dropping by Stockpile and asking questions about our project! We've been in contact with two great guys who are currently riding along the pacific coast - they've been uploading a ton of new footage to Stockpile from the road, drop by (http://stockpile.projectpedal.com) and let them know we're out here cheering them on! Thanks for all the support!
