Money and Banks

I was in Tillamook Oregon on a Saturday and used the local banks ATM. I left my card in the ATM and after the beeping stopped I watched in horror as the machine ate my card! To make a long story short I got my card back but I was worried that I wouldn't be able to access my money again on my trip. Ever since then..when I travel I bring TWO ATM cards. One in my pocket and one is in my gear just in case. The banks raise a bit of a fuss but when you tell them why they will issue you an extra

My boyfriend and I are riding the TransAm from West to East, starting May 2005.  We are unsure as to how to manage our funds?!  Should we open an account from NZ in the States, and if so, do they provide cashflow (eftpos) cards for easy access?  If so, are there facilities all the way across to access your money - or do you need cash for remote parts of the trip?  We would prefer to stay away from travellers cheques if possible as they are just as much a liability as cash.  It may be easier to set up the bank account once arriving in the States?  Is any bank better than another? Hi,

I ran across a bank in Green River, Utah that was not friendly toward my West Coast bank.  Be sure you start looking befo9re your funds are gone.  I didn't and it got ugly before it got better.
