There was some useful information, but not a lot. The author has several glaring omissions. For instance, he assumes everyone has a heart rate monitor; they don't. He never even mentions that there are other ways to take your pulse and do the calculations. The info on training for tours is woefully inadequate. He never takes into account the varying length of tours or daily mileages between tours.
