These loose-fitting shorts with a moisture-wicking polypropylene chamois insert are a big hit with Adventure Cycling staff. Great off and on the bike, the flat stitching in these bike shorts makes the pad almost unnoticeable when you’re off the bike. Created from durable, fast-drying taslan nylon with two large zippered cargo pockets and a waist drawstring. Touring Shorts are perfect for the cyclist that doesn’t like the look or feel of the traditional form-fitting stretchy Lycra bike shorts, and wants a bike shorts one can feel comfortable wearing in public.

No built in liner like most shorts. Padding weak, not enough pockets.

They are very short in the legs and the padding is very minimal. I was very disappointed in them.

These are your basic short. These are light, but durable. I have several pair that I have worn for years. The have a minimal pad, which I like. They also have no liner which I like also. Sometimes at the beginning of a tour, I will double them up and this adds extra cushioning.

The J&G Touring shorts are very comfortable, with just enough padding. Great in the hot weather as they are light and fairly loose fitting. I would suggest getting a size larger than what you think. I am a 34 waist and I originally bought a large. It was too small. I ended up with an XL and I'm not that big a guy.

This was my first cycling short; bought 2 on the basis of price and because it was offered by Cyclesource. It is light, cool, and seems to be well-constructed. They dry quickly, which I came to appreciate on RAGBRAI last year. There is no inner liner; the chamois is part of the shell and quite thin in comparison to shorts I've since bought (Cannondale Sport Baggy - more/better pockets, separate liner with decently thick chamois, so far worth the extra $20-$25). I still use my J&G's, but with a separate Sugoi liner bought for that purpose.

I wrote a review on these a couple of years ago ("You Can Do Better"). I still wouldn't want them for a day-long ride but they've become my first choice for commuting (10.5 miles each way on a mountain bike, half on gravel/sand farm roads). The chamois is adequate for at least that much and after 3 years of seasonal use is holding up well, as is the product as a whole. A previously unmentioned advantage I've come to appreciate: they are light enough to wear un-noticed under street/walking shorts, jeans, cargo pants, etc. Among other things, this would make them useful, even essential, in cold weather. I'll give that a shot this winter. Used as described, I think they're excellent and rate them as such, the only downside being pockets so deep I have to bend over to retrieve anything in the bottom. I know, that sounds absurd. I'm tall. I'll order more anyway.

Mixed feelings. I like them but.. I have a 35-36" waist and bought the XL. I feel like they are a bit snug across the hips and would like them at least 2" longer. I use them with and w/o bike shammy underwear.

The best thing about these shorts is that they can be worn off the bike as casual shorts and easily washed and dried while on tour. I really like the zippered pockets so I can keep keys or coins in them without worrying about stuff falling out while I'm stretching. It's also nice to be able to wear the shorts casually and be able to put my hands in my pockets. I wish there were a pocket in the back for a wallet, since it flops around if I put it in the side pockets. The waist-to-crotch length is kind of long on me which meant that unless I pulled the shorts up really high the legs bunch up a little while I ride. Not the worst thing but a little bothersome. This might be the case for everyone.

A couple of years ago my wife and I rode around Europe on our tandem. I only used 2 pair of shorts. A pair of J&G lycra shorts and a pair of J&G touring shorts. I don't think I would like to go more that 60 miles in these, but they were great for wash day and also very nice on days when we spent a lot of time off the bike. I don't think I'll ever tour without a pair of these in a pannier.

I am a satisfied customer and have owned many pairs of these shorts. They are light-weight, durable and dry very quickly. My only negative comment is quality control. Last year I bought two pairs in large (I wear 30 x 32 pants) that fit me perfectly. This year I did the same, ordering again large, but the shorts I received this time fit differently. They are much larger than the ones I order last year. I need to use the draw string to keep them up.

The shorts are very good - if anything the pockets are too deep - 1 or 2" shorter would be better - pocket comes close to the top of my knee - I would buy another in the future.

I have purchased many biking shorts over the years but nothing tops the J & G Touring shorts for simplicity, comfort and durability. I have a pair that I bought several years ago, worn and washed many times and they are still as good as new. That is why I decided to buy two more of them. As my other biking shorts deteriorate with age and use, the J & G shorts will soldier on apparently forever!

My problem is I need more padding. Even with regular padded shorts alternating days with these, I have bruised sitbones after 2 weeks of riding. Good quality, quick drying, pockets handy after riding but not during as stuff in them pounds the leg.

Good product. If you are riding casually, particularly road riding with great distances involved, these shorts are terrific. Not tight anywhere but still with the soft pad we all need for comfortable riding on seats designed to fit only one place on the human anatomy. Also, when off the bike, really good for walking into small country stores out in the middle of nowhere and not getting stared at by 6 locals sitting around the counter passing the time of day. Good quality.
