Development Coordinator

Adventure Cycling Association seeks a well-organized, detail-oriented and creative person to fill the role of Development Coordinator in our Development Department. This is a unique opportunity for a self-starter with initiative to join a fast-growing development program. The ideal candidate will be a team player who works well in a stimulating environment, meets deadlines and works well under pressure. The candidate will ideally have some experience in fundraising or communications and marketing as well as an enthusiasm for cycling and bicycle travel. The position is based at Adventure Cycling’s headquarters in beautiful and bike-friendly Missoula, Montana.

General Summary

The Development Coordinator reports to the Development Director and is primarily responsible for maintaining the day-to-day activities of the Development Department such as ongoing donor fulfillment and gift stewardship, updating the development calendar, coordinating donor outreach activities, and fielding phone calls with Adventure Cycling members and donors. The Development Coordinator will also assist in drafting all types of donor correspondence, from direct mail appeals to thank you letters and grant materials, as needed. This person interacts frequently with Adventure Cycling members and donors, and should have a pleasant and outgoing phone demeanor as well as exemplary interpersonal skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manages donor fulfillment, including printing thank you letters, certificates, and envelopes, as well as fulfilling premiums;
  • Assists with direct mail preparation, including premium coordination, list preparation, copywriting/editing, and working with staff graphic designers, printers, and mailing house;
  • Manages monthly donor program and fulfillment;
  • Updates and maintains donor records and prepares reports as needed;
  • Organizes and coordinates member/donor outreach trips;
  • Conducts prospect research and identification;
  • Assists with grant research, proposal applications and reporting as needed;
  • Other development tasks, as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Well-organized, detailed, and able to meet deadlines;
  • Outstanding communication skills;
  • Experience with donor/customer management database preferred;
  • Strong writing skills with ability to write within specific parameters and produce copy as requested;
  • Outstanding customer service skills and ease in working with donors;
  • Understanding of the nonprofit sector and mission-driven organizations;
  • Understanding of philanthropy and sensitivity to the needs of donors.

Education and Experience

Candidates should have completed a four-year degree program from a college or university. Candidates with professional backgrounds in communications, marketing, development, and/or fundraising will be considered. Candidate should have 1-2 years previous experience in one or many of these fields. Cycling and bicycle touring experience preferred.

The position will be competitively compensated in the Northern Rockies region.
